Starting Your Story

Starting your story is so important! These are my steps for success to make yours the best you can!

Tip No.1
Make sure it's exciting. You don't want to make it sound so tiresome it bores the reader straight away. I'm in favour with starting with speech, as this makes the person reading ask themselves something along the lines of this: I wonder why they said that... or What's happened? However, if your going to start with speech, make sure it's not too long winded, for example:

"Jonathan, we need to leave for the train station other wise were going to be late! We won't catch our train on time so we won't get to your Nanna Grey's 50th birthday party! Come on!"

I mean, you don't really want to read that as your first sentence, do you? (By the way I just wrote what first came into my head, so sorry it's a bit random). One reason why is the fact it has already given the reader what is happening, and another is it is slightly boring because of how long it is. One good thing about this though is the fact that it gives you slightly more information about the characters in the story. If I was to read that, I would get the impression that Jonathan is a boy who can be a little bit tiresome and is forever late for things, and the person who is speaking likes to be punctual when going to places. What impression do you get?

Tip No.2

Description is a good one to do. You could describe the setting that your characters are in, or maybe what your character is wearing and their personality. Try and use some creative vocabulary to add more meaning. Just don't drag on for two long, as this, personally, bores me and makes me want to stop reading, as I sometimes imagine that the whole story is just going to be bucket loads of description. Not really something I like to see.

Okay so I hope this post helped you out with how to start a story, as I know I can sometimes struggle with this. If it did help, please leave a comment below!

This is/was my first post so please tell me what you honestly thought and how I could improve to make it easier for you to understand.

Love, Beanie. cx
